IS FRIDAY THE 13TH AN UNLUCKY DAY?

By Bro Duane

The belief Friday the 13th is unlucky is superstition which the Church does not support:

“2110 The first commandment forbids honoring gods other than the one Lord who has revealed himself to his people. It proscribes superstition and irreligion. Superstition in some sense represents a perverse excess of religion; irreligion is the vice contrary by defect to the virtue of religion.”(Catechism of the Catholic Church)

Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, He promised his disciples, “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”(Matthew 28:20)

If Friday is an unlucky day, it means the presence of God is not present on this day?

Jesus is a Jew (John 4:9). According to one rabbi, “The number thirteen is among the holiest of the numbers because it is closely associated with HaShem. The spiritual significance of number thirteen (13), as reflected by the 13 attributes of Mercy.

Why is the 13th unlucky?

This came from Gospel of Judas which is not part of the bible but a fabrication of Gnostics.

“Judas said, ‘Master, just as you have listened to all of them, listen also to me. For I have seen a great vision.’ But when Jesus heard this, he laughed and said to him, ‘Why do you struggle so, O thirteenth spirit? But speak, and I will be patient with you.’(Page 83, the Gospel of Judas)

If the 13th is unlucky, why did God spoke through Prophet Jeremiah on the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah, son of Amon of Judah?

” to whom the word of the Lord came in the days of King Josiah son of Amon of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.”(Jeremiah 1:2)
